7 Practical Ways to Magnify God and Reflect His Glory

As believers, our ultimate purpose is to magnify God. But what does it mean to magnify God? And how do we go about doing it? In this article, we will explore the concept of magnifying God and discover practical ways to fulfill this calling in our lives.

When we think of magnifying, we often imagine using a microscope to make small objects appear larger. However, when David declares in Psalm 69:30, "I will magnify God with thanksgiving," he is not referring to making a small God look bigger than He is. Instead, he is expressing his desire to make a big God begin to look as big as He truly is.

As Christians, we are called to be telescopes rather than microscopes. Our goal is not to deceive or exaggerate, but to accurately reflect the greatness of God to the world. We are called to make His magnificence and glory shine brightly, so that others may see and be drawn to Him.

To fulfill this calling, we must first have a deep understanding of the greatness and goodness of God. We need to see Him for who He truly is and to remember His faithfulness and love. As the psalmist says in Psalm 103:2, "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits." It is through this deep knowledge and remembrance that we can effectively magnify God.

But how do we practically magnify God in our daily lives? Here are a few suggestions:

1. Offer Praise and Thanksgiving: One way to magnify God is through praise and thanksgiving. When we acknowledge His goodness, grace, and mercy, we are magnifying His attributes and bringing glory to His name. Whether through songs, prayers, or simply expressing gratitude, let us continually offer praise and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father.

2. Proclaim His Excellencies: As believers, we have been chosen and called to proclaim the excellencies of God. We are to share His love, salvation, and the transformation He brings in our lives. By sharing our testimonies and declaring His greatness, we are magnifying God and drawing others to Him.

3. Reflect His Character: Another way to magnify God is by reflecting His character in our lives. As we grow in our relationship with Him, the fruits of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – should become evident in our actions and attitudes. By living in a way that reflects His character, we magnify God and point others to His goodness.

4. Trust and Obey: When we trust and obey God, we demonstrate our faith in His sovereignty and His wisdom. Our obedience magnifies His authority and His guidance in our lives. When others see our trust and obedience, they are drawn to the One we are following.

5. Seek His Kingdom: Jesus instructs us in Matthew 6:33 to "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness." By prioritizing God's kingdom and aligning our lives with His will, we magnify His reign and His purposes in this world. When we seek His kingdom above all else, we show the world that He is truly worthy of our devotion and allegiance.

6. Walk in Unity: Unity among believers is a powerful testimony to the greatness of God. When we love one another, forgive one another, and strive for unity in the body of Christ, we magnify God's love and His desire for His people to live in harmony. By walking in unity, we reflect the unity of the triune God and demonstrate the power and beauty of His gospel.

These are just a few ways we can magnify God in our lives. As we seek to fulfill this calling, let us continually ask God to open the eyes of our hearts, that we may see and remember His greatness. Let us be intentional in praising Him, proclaiming His excellencies, reflecting His character, trusting and obeying Him, seeking His kingdom, and walking in unity with other believers.

In conclusion, our purpose as Christians is to magnify God. We are called to make His greatness begin to look as great as it truly is. Through praise, thanksgiving, proclamation, reflection, trust, obedience, seeking His kingdom, and walking in unity, we can effectively magnify God in our lives. May we continually strive to reflect His glory and draw others to Him, so that His name may be magnified in all the earth.
