4 Reasons to Slow Down: Savor God's Word, Connect with God, Enjoy Creation,
Four Reasons to Slow Down
Do you ever find yourself rushing through life? Are you always in a hurry, trying to get to the next thing? If so, you’re not alone. In our fast-paced world, we often feel like we need to move quickly just to keep up. But what if we’re missing something important by always being in a hurry? What if slowing down could actually help us experience life more fully? Here are four reasons to slow down:
1. To Savor God’s Word
Do you ever read your Bible quickly, just to check it off your to-do list? Or do you take the time to truly savor God’s Word? Psalm 119:15 says, “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” When we slow down and meditate on God’s Word, we can more fully understand and appreciate it. We can see how it applies to our lives and how it reveals God’s character. So take the time to savor God’s Word. Read it slowly, reflect on it, and let it sink in.
2. To Connect with God
Do you ever feel like your relationship with God is superficial? Like you’re just going through the motions, but not really connecting with him? When we slow down, we can more fully connect with God. We can take the time to pray, to listen for his voice, and to be still in his presence. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” When we slow down and are still before God, we can experience his presence in a deeper way.
3. To Enjoy God’s Creation
Do you ever take the time to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation? To stop and smell the roses, as they say? When we’re always in a hurry, we can miss out on the wonders of God’s creation. But when we slow down, we can take the time to appreciate the beauty around us. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” So take the time to enjoy God’s creation. Go for a walk in nature, watch a sunset, or marvel at the stars.
4. To Love Others Well
Do you ever feel like you don’t have time for the people in your life? Like you’re always rushing from one thing to the next? When we slow down, we can more fully love others. We can take the time to listen to them, to empathize with them, and to be present with them. We can show them the love of Christ in a tangible way. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” When we slow down and love others well, we reflect the love of Christ to the world.
Conclusion
So why should we slow down? Because it helps us savor God’s Word, connect with God, enjoy God’s creation, and love others well. It helps us experience life more fully and reflect the love of Christ to the world. So take the time to slow down today. Put down your phone, turn off the TV, and be still before God. Take a walk in nature, spend time with a friend, or simply sit and reflect. When we slow down, we can more fully experience the abundant life that Christ offers us.
