Trusting in the Promises of God: Faith in Future Grace

Trusting in the Promises of God: A Life of Faith in Future Grace

Have you ever considered the incredible power of the promises of God? The Bible is filled with countless promises that God has made to His people. And the amazing thing is that all of these promises find their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

In 2 Corinthians 1:20, the apostle Paul writes, "For all the promises of God find their Yes in him." This means that when we trust in Jesus, we are also trusting in the promises that God has made to us. It is not a separate act of faith to believe in Jesus and to believe in His promises. They are intertwined and inseparable.

Trusting in Jesus means believing that He keeps His word. It means being satisfied in Him and believing that He will always be faithful to His promises. And what is the ultimate promise that we can trust in? It is the promise that nothing will separate us from the love of God and that He works all things together for our good (Romans 8:38-39).

But how can we be sure that these promises will come true? How can we have confidence in a future that we cannot see? The answer lies in the past. We need to look back at all the glorious grace that God has shown us, especially in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

John Piper, in his book "Future Grace," reminds us that our confidence in the future is rooted in the past. God did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all (Romans 8:32). This act of grace is the foundation upon which we can build our trust in God's promises.

But it's not enough to simply look to the past. We must also look to the future. We must believe that God will continue to be faithful to His promises in every moment, in every month, and throughout eternity. It is He and He alone who will satisfy our souls in the future.

As Christians, we are called to live radical lives of faith and service. But we cannot do this if we do not have confidence in the future. Our present enjoyment of Christ and our present faith must have in it the Yes to all of God's promises. Only then can we embrace the power that God will supply for our radical service.

So how can we cultivate this kind of faith in future grace? One way is to meditate on the promises of God and to taste the spiritual beauty of God in all His past achievements. We can reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus and the incredible love and grace that God has shown us.

We can also study the Bible and immerse ourselves in the promises of God. The more we know and understand His promises, the more confident we will be in His faithfulness. And as we trust in Him and believe in His promises, we will find that our faith grows stronger and our hearts are filled with joy and peace.

But let's not forget that faith in future grace is not just about us. It is also about the glory of God. As we trust in His promises and live lives of faith, we bring glory to Him. In fact, God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him (John Piper).

In conclusion, trusting in the promises of God is not just a simple act of faith. It is a deep and wonderful thing that requires us to believe in Jesus and believe in His promises. It is rooted in the past grace that God has shown us and extends into the future, where we can have confidence in His faithfulness.

So let's cultivate a life of faith in future grace. Let's meditate on the promises of God, study His Word, and trust in Him with all our hearts. And as we do, we will find that our faith grows stronger, our hearts are filled with joy, and the glory of God shines through us.
