Trusting God's Timing: When My Wedding Plans Didn't Go as Expected
My Wedding Was Supposed to Be Today: Trusting God's Timing
Have you ever made a plan for your life and thought that everything was laid out perfectly? That's what happened with my life plan. I made it when I was just ten years old, and it included all the typical things: graduate high school, go to college, travel the world. But when it came to romance, I had always assumed that I would get married at 23 because "Why not?" and "Surely I'll have met somebody by then."
So, in my late teens, I arbitrarily picked a date a few months before my 24th birthday as my likely wedding day, and I even added details about kids, jobs, and travel along the way. However, my plan remained mostly unchanged for years until the day I was supposed to be married.
But as it turns out, the God I serve isn't always a straightforward God. He is a God who desires for us to trust in His timing and His plans for our lives.
God's Timing Is Perfect
As Christians, we know that God's timing is perfect. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that God has made everything beautiful in its time. So, when our plans don't go as expected, we can trust that God has a greater plan for our lives.
And that's exactly what happened for me. While I had always thought I would be married by this date, God had other plans. Plans that were greater than anything I could have imagined for myself.
It's easy to get caught up in our own plans and what we want for our lives. But when we surrender our plans to God, we allow Him to work in our lives in a way that we could never do on our own.
Trusting God's Plan
Trusting God's plan for our lives can be difficult, especially when things don't go as we had hoped. But the Bible reminds us over and over again to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
We may not always understand why things happen the way they do, but we can trust that God has a plan for our lives. A plan that is good and perfect and pleasing to Him.
As we see in the story of Joseph in the Bible, God can take even the worst situations and turn them into something good. Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers, but God had a plan for his life. Joseph was eventually made second in command in all of Egypt, and he was able to save his family from the famine that was taking place in their land.
When we trust in God's plan for our lives, we can have the same kind of hope that Joseph had. We can trust that God will take even the worst situations and turn them into something good.
God's Plan for Marriage
Marriage is a beautiful gift from God, and it's something that many of us desire for our lives. But sometimes, God's plan for our lives doesn't include marriage. And that's okay.
The Apostle Paul talks about singleness in 1 Corinthians 7, and he says that it's better to be unmarried if you can live a life of purity and devotion to the Lord. He goes on to say that singleness allows us to be more devoted to the Lord's work and to serve Him without distraction.
While marriage is a wonderful thing, it's not the only thing. And sometimes, God's plan for our lives may not include marriage. But that doesn't mean that our lives are any less valuable or fulfilling.
Conclusion
As I sit here on the day that was supposed to be my wedding day, I am reminded of God's perfect timing and His plan for my life. While I may not understand why things didn't go as I had planned, I can trust that God has a greater plan for my life.
Trusting in God's plan for our lives can be difficult, but it's worth it. When we surrender our plans to Him, He can work in our lives in a way that we could never do on our own.
So if you're going through a season of disappointment or waiting, remember that God's timing is perfect. Trust in Him and His plan for your life, and know that He has something greater in store for you.
