The Strength You Need for Today: Relying on God's Spiritual Resources
The Strength You Need for Today
Feeling weak or exhausted is a common experience that can happen to anyone at any time. It could be caused by physical exhaustion from work, relationships, parenting, or other life circumstances. While diet, exercise, and sleep are all essential factors that contribute to our strength on any given day, relying on God's spiritual resources is the ultimate source of strength we need in our daily lives.
God's strength is not weighed in calories, defined by REM cycles, or determined by our personal feelings. Instead, it is a strength that runs deeper and higher than what we typically see and feel in our lives. As we face each day, we need to rely on God's strength to help us overcome our weakness and fulfill His calling and purpose for our lives.
The Strength We Need Most
As Christians, our strength comes from our relationship with God. In Acts 9, we read about Saul's conversion, where he encountered the risen Christ on the road to Damascus. This encounter transformed Saul's life, and he became one of the most influential apostles in the early church.
Seven words in Acts 9:6 leapt off the page at me recently when reading the story of Saul’s conversion:
“Lord, what will you have me to do?”
These seven words reveal the heart of a man who recognized his weakness and his need for God's strength. Instead of relying on his own abilities and strength, Saul surrendered his life to the Lord and asked Him what He would have him to do.
Similarly, we need to approach each day with the same attitude of surrender and dependence on God. We need to ask Him for the strength we need to face the challenges that come our way and to fulfill His calling and purpose for our lives.
God's Strength in Our Weakness
One of the most comforting verses in the Bible is found in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, where Paul writes:
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
In this passage, Paul acknowledges his weakness and how it causes him to rely on God's strength. He recognizes that it is through his weaknesses that God's power is made perfect and that he can boast in his weaknesses because they allow him to experience God's strength in a new and profound way.
Similarly, we can find comfort in our weaknesses and rely on God's strength to help us overcome them. When we recognize our limitations and surrender them to God, He can use our weaknesses to demonstrate His power and bring glory to His name.
Living in God's Strength
Living in God's strength means relying on Him to provide the resources we need to face each day. It means surrendering our plans, desires, and expectations to His will and trusting Him to guide us every step of the way.
Living in God's strength also means seeking His presence through prayer, reading the Bible, and worship. These practices help us to stay connected to Him and to receive the strength and guidance we need to face each day.
When we live in God's strength, we can face any challenge that comes our way with confidence and courage. We can trust that He will provide for our needs and guide us every step of the way.
Conclusion
As we face each day, let us remember that our strength comes from God. Let us surrender our weaknesses and limitations to Him and ask Him for the strength we need to fulfill His calling and purpose for our lives. Let us seek His presence through prayer, reading the Bible, and worship, and trust Him to guide us every step of the way.
Let us also remember the words of Isaiah 40:31, which say:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
May we live in God's strength and soar on wings like eagles as we trust in Him to renew our strength each day.
