You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God."

Self-indulgence can also dull our spiritual tastes and curbs our spiritual appetites (Proverbs 27:7). If we don't take it seriously, it can turn our hearts away from God, just like Solomon's wives did (1 Kings 11:1-3).
