Are We Losing Christ in Christianity? Rekindling Our First Love
Are We Losing Christ in Christianity?
Have you ever asked yourself, "Am I in danger of losing Christ in my Christianity?" It may sound like an unusual question, but it is one worth pondering. As believers who love and follow Jesus, we need to examine our hearts and assess whether we have lost our first love for Him.
In today's world, it seems that books on Christian living are in high demand, while books focusing on Christ Himself often remain on the shelves. This raises a concern: has Jesus become a mere adjective that modifies our other pursuits, rather than the central focus of our lives?
The Greater Light Shining as the Lesser
Perhaps without realizing it, we may have allowed Christ to fade into the background of our lives. The light that once shone brightly within us may now be dimmed, overshadowed by our everyday concerns and distractions. We need to ask ourselves whether the greater light is now shining as the lesser in our hearts.
In Psalm 130:6, the psalmist declares, "My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning." This verse reminds us of the eager anticipation we should have for the presence of the Lord in our lives. Do we still long for Him with such intensity? Is our soul yearning for His fellowship and guidance?
Seeking His Face Above All
What is the one thing we truly desire from the Lord? Do we seek His blessings, His provision, or His favor above all else? In Psalm 27:4, the psalmist says, "One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple."
This verse challenges us to examine our hearts and priorities. Are we seeking after the Lord Himself or merely His blessings? Do we long to dwell in His presence, to gaze upon His beauty, and to converse with Him? Our relationship with Christ should be the foundation of our faith, above any other pursuit or desire.
The Pain of His Absence
Do we feel the pain of Christ's absence in our lives? When we neglect our relationship with Him, we miss His presence, His guidance, and His comfort. Just as a loved one's absence brings sorrow and longing, so should the absence of Christ in our lives cause us to ache for His fellowship.
In the Song of Solomon, the bride passionately declares, "Have you seen Him whom my soul loves?" (Song 3:3). This question should resonate within our hearts. Are we constantly searching for the presence of our beloved Savior? Do we yearn to encounter Him in every aspect of our lives?
Remaining Focused on Christ
As we navigate our Christian journey, it is crucial to keep our focus on Christ. We must guard against allowing Him to become a mere afterthought or a peripheral aspect of our faith. Instead, let us continually seek to know Him more deeply, to love Him more fervently, and to follow Him more faithfully.
When we prioritize our relationship with Christ, we find true fulfillment and purpose. As we study His Word, meditate on His teachings, and spend time in prayer, we draw closer to Him. We begin to see the world through His eyes and align our desires with His will.
Jesus Himself said in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." This verse reminds us that when we prioritize seeking God and His righteousness, all our needs will be met. Our pursuit of Christ should be our primary focus, and everything else will fall into place.
Conclusion
In the hustle and bustle of our lives, it is easy to lose sight of Christ and allow Him to take a backseat in our faith. However, as believers, we must continually evaluate our hearts and ensure that our love for Him remains fervent and unwavering.
Let us not lose Christ in our Christianity. May we always seek His face above all else, yearning for His presence and longing to know Him more intimately. As we prioritize our relationship with Him, we will experience the joy, peace, and fulfillment that come from a vibrant and thriving connection with our Savior.
So, I encourage you to ask yourself: Are you in danger of losing Christ in your Christianity?
