"5 Sacred Weapons for Spiritual Warfare: Armor, Prayer, Fasting, Blood of Jesus, Name

Sacred Weapons for Spiritual Warfare

As Christians, we have an enemy who wants to destroy us. The Bible calls him the devil, Satan, the accuser of the brethren. His mission is to steal, kill, and destroy. That's why we need to be equipped with sacred weapons to defend ourselves against his attacks.

In Ephesians 6:10-18, we are given a list of spiritual weapons that we can use to fight against the devil. These weapons are not physical but spiritual, and they are mighty through God to pull down strongholds.

The Armor of God

The first weapon is the armor of God. We need to put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand against the wiles of the devil. The armor consists of six pieces:

The Belt of Truth

The first piece of armor is the belt of truth. We need to gird our loins with truth. This means that we need to be grounded in the truth of God's Word. We need to know what we believe and why we believe it.

When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, he countered every temptation with the Word of God. He said, "It is written." We need to do the same. We need to know the Word of God so that we can use it as a weapon against the devil.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

The second piece of armor is the breastplate of righteousness. This means that we need to live a righteous life. We need to be in right standing with God. We need to repent of our sins and walk in holiness.

When we are in right standing with God, the devil cannot accuse us. He is called the accuser of the brethren because he accuses us before God day and night. But when we are covered by the blood of Jesus and walking in righteousness, we are protected from his accusations.

The Shoes of Peace

The third piece of armor is the shoes of peace. We need to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. This means that we need to be ready to share the gospel with others.

When we share the gospel, we are bringing peace to the world. We are sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, who is the Prince of Peace. The devil wants to keep people in darkness, but when we share the light of the gospel, we are pushing back the darkness.

The Shield of Faith

The fourth piece of armor is the shield of faith. We need to take up the shield of faith so that we can quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

The devil will try to attack us with doubts, fears, and temptations. But when we have faith in God, we can stand against his attacks. We can say, "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day" (2 Timothy 1:12).

The Helmet of Salvation

The fifth piece of armor is the helmet of salvation. We need to have the helmet of salvation on our heads. This means that we need to be saved.

When we are saved, we have the assurance that we are going to heaven. We have the hope of eternal life. The devil wants to steal our hope and discourage us. But when we have the helmet of salvation on, we can say, "I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth" (Job 19:25).

The Sword of the Spirit

The sixth piece of armor is the sword of the Spirit. This is the Word of God.

The Word of God is a powerful weapon against the devil. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, he countered every temptation with the Word of God. We need to do the same. We need to know the Word of God so that we can use it as a weapon against the devil.

Prayer

The second weapon we have is prayer. We need to pray without ceasing. Prayer is not just a one-time event; it's a lifestyle.

When we pray, we are communicating with God. We are asking for his help, his guidance, and his protection. We are also thanking him for his blessings and his goodness. When we pray, we are acknowledging our dependence on God.

Jesus said, "Men ought always to pray, and not to faint" (Luke 18:1). We need to be persistent in prayer. We need to keep praying until we see the answer. When we pray, we are tapping into the power of God.

Fasting

The third weapon we have is fasting. Fasting is not just abstaining from food; it's denying ourselves for the sake of spiritual growth.

When we fast, we are saying no to our fleshly desires and yes to the things of God. We are humbling ourselves before God and seeking his will. Fasting is a way of drawing closer to God.

Jesus said, "When ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly" (Matthew 6:16-18).

The Blood of Jesus

The fourth weapon we have is the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus is a powerful weapon against the devil.

When we are covered by the blood of Jesus, we are protected from the attacks of the devil. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. It gives us the power to overcome sin and temptation. It gives us the power to resist the devil.

The Bible says, "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death" (Revelation 12:11).

The Name of Jesus

The fifth weapon we have is the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is a powerful weapon against the devil.

When we use the name of Jesus, we are invoking his authority. We are saying, "In the name of Jesus, I command you, devil, to flee." The name of Jesus is above every name. The devil must bow to the name of Jesus.

The Bible says, "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:9-11).

Conclusion

We are in a spiritual battle, and we need to be equipped with sacred weapons to fight against the devil. The armor of God, prayer, fasting, the blood of Jesus, and the name of Jesus are powerful weapons that we can use to defend ourselves against his attacks.

We need to put on the whole armor of God and be grounded in the truth of God's Word. We need to live a righteous life and be in right standing with God. We need to be ready to share the gospel of peace with others. We need to have faith in God and the assurance of our salvation. We need to know the Word of God and use it as a weapon against the devil.

We need to pray without ceasing and fast for the sake of spiritual growth. We need to be covered by the blood of Jesus and use his name to invoke his authority.

Remember, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us (Romans 8:37). The devil may try to attack us, but he can never defeat us when we are armed with these sacred weapons.
