Trusting God with Our Time: A Christian Perspective

Trusting God with Our Time

As we journey through life, one of the things that we all have in common is time. Time is a precious commodity that we cannot buy or sell. It is something that we all have in limited supply, yet it is one of the most valuable resources that we possess. How we spend our time is a reflection of our priorities, values, and beliefs.

As Christians, we believe that our time is in God's hands. We trust that He is sovereign over all things, including our lives and the time that we have been given. We believe that God has a plan and a purpose for our lives, and that every moment that we have is an opportunity to bring glory to Him.

What the Bible Says About Time

The Bible has much to say about time and how we should use it. One of the most well-known passages is found in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, which says:

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

  • a time to be born and a time to die,

  • a time to plant and a time to uproot,

  • a time to kill and a time to heal,

  • a time to tear down and a time to build,

  • a time to weep and a time to laugh,

  • a time to mourn and a time to dance,

  • a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

  • a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

  • a time to search and a time to give up,

  • a time to keep and a time to throw away,

  • a time to tear and a time to mend,

  • a time to be silent and a time to speak,

  • a time to love and a time to hate,

  • a time for war and a time for peace.

This passage reminds us that there is a time and a season for every activity under heaven. It is a reminder that our time is limited and that we should use it wisely. We should make the most of every opportunity that we have to serve God and to love others.

Another passage that speaks to the value of time is found in Psalm 90:12, which says:

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

This passage reminds us that our time is limited and that we should be wise in how we use it. We should not take our time for granted, but rather, we should make the most of every moment that we have.

Trusting God with Our Time

As Christians, we believe that our time is not our own, but rather, it belongs to God. We trust that God is in control of our lives and that He has a plan and a purpose for each and every moment of our lives. We believe that God is sovereign over all things, including time, and that He is working all things together for our good and for His glory.

In Proverbs 16:9, it says:

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

This passage reminds us that while we may have plans for our lives, it is ultimately God who directs our steps. We should trust in His plan for our lives and seek to follow His will in all that we do.

Trusting God with our time also means being willing to surrender our plans and our desires to Him. In James 4:13-15, it says:

Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."

This passage reminds us that our plans and our desires should be submitted to God's will. We should seek to do His will in all that we do and trust that He will guide us and direct us in the way that we should go.

Conclusion

Trusting God with our time is not always easy. We live in a world that values productivity, efficiency, and busyness. We are bombarded with distractions and demands on our time. However, as Christians, we believe that our time is in God's hands. We trust that He is sovereign over all things and that He is working all things together for our good and for His glory.

May we be faithful stewards of the time that we have been given, using it wisely and for the glory of God.
