The Superior Reward of God: Pondering His Majesty

God's Superior Reward: Pondering the Majesty of God

When it comes to the things that drive the world, we often find ourselves entangled in the pursuit of wealth, pleasure, and power. But if we fail to ponder the superiority of God as our great reward, we will end up living like everyone else, loving the world instead of seeking the eternal treasures that await us.

Let us take a moment to reflect on the fleeting nature of worldly possessions. Money, for instance, holds great allure for many, but in the face of death, its value diminishes. Death strips away every material possession, leaving us with nothing to show for our efforts. Yet, if we shift our focus to the treasure of God, we find something far more enduring. God is the true owner of all riches, and as His children, we are heirs to His vast wealth. As 1 Corinthians 3:22–23 tells us, "All [things] are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's."

Similarly, sex, which is often pursued as the ultimate pleasure, pales in comparison to the intimate relationship we can have with God. Jesus Himself lived a life of complete fulfillment without ever engaging in sexual relations. Sex is merely a shadow, a mere glimpse of the greater reality of the joy and intimacy we can experience in our relationship with God. In His presence, even the most exquisite sexual encounter would seem dull in comparison.

Power, too, holds a strong allure for many. Yet, the power we seek in the world is fleeting and limited. In contrast, as children of the Almighty God, we possess the greatest power of all. As 1 Corinthians 6:3 reminds us, "Do you not know that we are to judge angels?" Additionally, Revelation 3:21 promises that those who conquer will be granted the privilege of sitting with Christ on His throne. This surpasses any earthly power we may strive for.

In every aspect, God's reward is superior and enduring. There is simply no comparison. God always emerges as the ultimate victor. The question for us then becomes: Will we choose to have Him as our reward? Will we awaken from the stupor induced by the distractions of this world and recognize the true value of God's eternal and infinitely valuable presence?

As we delve deeper into the Scriptures, we find numerous references that reinforce the superiority of God's reward. In Psalm 16:11, we read, "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." This verse reminds us that true joy and everlasting pleasure can only be found in the presence of God.

In Matthew 6:19-20, Jesus instructs us not to store up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, but to store up treasures in heaven, where they are secure and everlasting. This serves as a powerful reminder that the pursuit of worldly possessions is futile in the face of the eternal treasures that await us in God's presence.

In addition, 1 Peter 1:4 encourages us with the promise of an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for us. This inheritance, which is God Himself, far surpasses any temporary pleasure or power we may find in this world.

As we consider these references from the Bible, we begin to grasp the magnitude of God's reward. It surpasses our limited human understanding and offers us a glimpse of the everlasting joy and fulfillment that awaits us in His presence.

It is vital that we approach this topic with a sense of awe and reverence. The majesty of God's reward is not something to be taken lightly or dismissed as mere theology. It is a reality that demands our attention and devotion.

Let us imagine for a moment that we are standing before a grand banquet table, laden with the most sumptuous delicacies and exquisite treasures. The table stretches on for miles, overflowing with abundance. At the head of the table sits God Himself, radiating a love and joy that surpasses anything we have ever known. He invites us to partake in this feast, to taste and see that He is good.

In this moment, all worldly desires and pursuits fade into insignificance. The allure of money, sex, and power loses its grip on our hearts as we fix our gaze upon the majesty and splendor of God. We realize that He is the true source of fulfillment, the ultimate reward that surpasses anything this world can offer.

As we reflect on the superiority of God's reward, let us not be swayed by the temporary pleasures and distractions of this world. Let us fix our eyes on the eternal and invest our time, energy, and resources in pursuing a relationship with our Creator.

May we wake up from the slumber induced by the materialistic mindset that pervades our culture. May we open our hearts and minds to the truth that God's reward is infinitely greater and more abiding than anything this world can offer. May we seek first His kingdom and righteousness, knowing that in Him we will find true joy, lasting pleasure, and immeasurable power.

In conclusion, let us heed the words of Hebrews 10:35: "Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward." The reward that awaits us in God's presence is beyond compare. It is a reward that transcends death and surpasses all earthly pleasures and pursuits. May we hold fast to this confidence and press on in our pursuit of God, knowing that He is the ultimate reward we seek.
