Stop Apologizing for God: Accepting His Justice, Love, and Holiness

Stop Apologizing for God

As Christians, we are often called to defend our faith and explain the ways of God to those who don't understand. However, in our attempts to do so, we often apologize for God and his actions. We try to make him seem less harsh, less judgmental, and more tolerant. But in doing so, we are doing a disservice to ourselves and to those around us.

God is not a God who needs apologizing for. He is just, righteous, and holy. He is love, but he is also judgment. He is kind, but he is also wrathful. He is not a God who can be manipulated or bargained with. He is God, and we must accept him as he is.

God's Justice

One of the areas where we often apologize for God is in his justice. We want to make him seem less harsh, less judgmental, and more accepting of our sin. However, the Bible is clear that God is a just God who will punish sin. Proverbs 11:21 says, "Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished." And Hebrews 10:31 says, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."

We cannot downplay the severity of sin and the punishment it deserves. We must accept God's justice and acknowledge that we are all sinners in need of his grace and forgiveness. As Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

God's Love

Another area where we often apologize for God is in his love. We want to make him seem less judgmental, less wrathful, and more accepting of our sin. However, the Bible is clear that God is a loving God who desires our salvation. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

We must accept God's love and acknowledge that it is only through his grace and forgiveness that we can be saved. As Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."

God's Holiness

Finally, we often apologize for God's holiness. We want to make him seem more approachable, more human, and less otherworldly. However, the Bible is clear that God is a holy God who cannot tolerate sin. Leviticus 11:44 says, "I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy."

We must accept God's holiness and acknowledge that it is only through his grace and forgiveness that we can approach him. As Hebrews 10:19-22 says, "Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water."

Conclusion

As Christians, we must stop apologizing for God and start accepting him as he is. We must accept his justice, his love, and his holiness. We must acknowledge that we are all sinners in need of his grace and forgiveness. Only then can we truly understand the depth of his love for us and the sacrifice he made on our behalf.

So let us stop apologizing for God and start proclaiming his truth to a world in desperate need of his salvation.
