Praying Gutsy: How to Boldly Ask God for the Impossible

A Gutsy Prayer for Christian Men

As Christian men, we often shy away from praying bold, audacious prayers. We stick to praying for our families, our jobs, and our health. While these are all good things to pray for, we need to remember that our God is a big God who is capable of doing far more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

So, what kind of prayer should we be praying? In Luke 11:1-13, Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray. He gives them a model prayer, which we now know as the Lord’s Prayer. But he also tells them a parable about a man who goes to his friend at midnight to ask for bread. Although the friend initially refuses, he eventually gives him the bread because of his persistence. Jesus then says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9).

Based on this teaching, we should be praying bold, gutsy prayers. We should be asking God for big things, things that we cannot accomplish on our own. We should be seeking his will for our lives, even if it means stepping out of our comfort zones. And we should be knocking on the doors of opportunity that he has placed before us.

What is a Gutsy Prayer?

A gutsy prayer is a prayer that requires faith and courage. It is a prayer that acknowledges our dependence on God and his power. It is a prayer that asks for something that is beyond our human abilities and resources.

Examples of gutsy prayers from the Bible include:

  • Joshua’s prayer for the sun to stand still: In Joshua 10:12-14, Joshua asks God to make the sun stand still so that he can defeat his enemies. God answers his prayer and the sun stands still for a whole day.

  • Hannah’s prayer for a son: In 1 Samuel 1:10-20, Hannah prays for a son, promising to give him back to the Lord. God answers her prayer and she gives birth to Samuel, who becomes a great prophet.

  • Hezekiah’s prayer for healing: In 2 Kings 20:1-11, Hezekiah is sick unto death. He prays to God for healing and God grants his request, adding fifteen years to his life.

These prayers are gutsy because they require faith in God’s power and willingness to act on behalf of his people. They are not timid requests, but bold declarations of trust in God’s goodness and sovereignty.

How to Pray a Gutsy Prayer

Praying a gutsy prayer requires us to step out of our comfort zones and trust in God’s power. Here are some steps to help you pray a gutsy prayer:

1. Identify what you need from God.

What is it that you need from God? Is it healing, provision, guidance, or something else? Be specific about what you are asking for.

2. Believe that God is able to do it.

Believe that God is able to do what you are asking for. Remember that he is a big God who is capable of doing far more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

3. Ask God boldly and persistently.

Ask God boldly and persistently for what you need. Don’t be afraid to ask for big things. Remember Jesus’ words: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9).

4. Trust in God’s timing and plan.

Trust in God’s timing and plan for your life. Remember that he knows what is best for you and that his plan is always good (Romans 8:28).

5. Thank God for his answer.

Thank God for his answer, even if it is not what you expected or wanted. Remember that he is always working for your good and his glory (Romans 8:28).

Conclusion

Praying a gutsy prayer requires faith and courage. It requires us to acknowledge our dependence on God and his power. But when we pray gutsy prayers, we are declaring our trust in God’s goodness and sovereignty. We are asking for big things, things that we cannot accomplish on our own. And we are opening ourselves up to the possibility of God’s miraculous provision, healing, and guidance.

So, let us be bold and courageous in our prayers. Let us ask God for big things and trust in his power to provide. And let us give him all the glory for his answers, whether they are what we expected or not.
