Praying for Lost Children: A Parent's Battle

Are you a parent raising a seemingly hard-hearted, rebellious son or daughter? It can be a heartbreaking and challenging journey. But don't lose hope, for your prayers have power. By entrusting your child's life to God and fighting for them in prayer, you can make a difference. In this article, we will explore three powerful prayers to pray over your lost children.

1. Pray for a Heart of Brokenness, No Matter the Earthly Cost

When our children are lost and wandering, it is crucial to pray for their hearts to be broken before God. We must ask God to reveal the emptiness and brokenness within them, so they can truly repent and turn to Him. This prayer requires us to be willing to let go of our own desires, expectations, and earthly comforts. It may come at a cost, but the eternal value of our child's salvation far outweighs any earthly sacrifice.

Jesus reminds us in Luke 18:27, "What is impossible with man is possible with God." Let us trust God's power to break through our child's hardened heart and bring them to a place of repentance.

Prayer:

"Heavenly Father, I pray for my child's heart to be broken before You. Help them see the emptiness and brokenness in their life apart from You. Give them a deep sense of their need for Your forgiveness and grace. I surrender my desires and expectations for their life into Your hands, trusting that You can do what is impossible for me. In Jesus' name, Amen."

2. Pray for Spiritual Blindness to be Lifted

Our lost children are spiritually blind, unable to see the truth and beauty of the Gospel. They may have been influenced by the lies of the world, deceived by the enemy, or simply blinded by their own stubbornness. As parents, we have the privilege and responsibility to intercede on their behalf and ask God to remove the spiritual blindness from their eyes.

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:4, "In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." Let us pray for the light of the Gospel to shine through the darkness and bring clarity to their hearts.

Prayer:

"Lord, I lift up my child to You and ask that You would remove the spiritual blindness from their eyes. Open their eyes to see the truth and beauty of the Gospel. Break through the lies and deception that have taken hold of their heart. Shine Your light into their darkness and bring clarity to their understanding. In Jesus' name, Amen."

3. Pray for the Prodigal's Return

Just as the father in the parable of the prodigal son eagerly awaited his son's return, we too can pray for our lost children to come home. We must have faith that God can turn their hearts back to Him, no matter how far they have wandered. Our prayers can serve as a spiritual battle, fighting against the forces that seek to keep our children captive.

In Luke 15:20, we read about the father's response to his prodigal son's return: "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him." Let us pray for the same compassion and love to fill our hearts as we eagerly await our children's return.

Prayer:

"Heavenly Father, I pray for my prodigal child to return to You. No matter how far they have strayed, I believe that You can bring them back. Fill my heart with compassion and love, just as the father in the parable had for his son. May my prayers be a powerful weapon against the forces that seek to keep my child captive. In Jesus' name, Amen."

As parents, we have a unique calling to fight for our lost children in prayer. Let us not grow weary or lose hope, for God hears our prayers and is faithful to answer. Keep lifting your child up before the Lord, entrusting their life to His loving and capable hands. Remember, what is impossible with man is possible with God. Trust in His power and never give up on your child's life.
