Marriage is Not the Ultimate Mission: Our Call to Glorify God

Marriage is Not the Ultimate Mission in Life

For many Christians, marriage is seen as the ultimate mission in life. People believe that they were created to find their soulmate, settle down, and start a family. While marriage is a God-given gift and a beautiful thing, it is not the ultimate mission in life.

As Christians, our ultimate mission is to glorify God in all that we do. This means that whether we are married or single, we are called to live a life that glorifies God.

What Does the Bible Say About Marriage?

The Bible has a lot to say about marriage. Marriage is a beautiful and sacred union between one man and one woman. It is a covenant relationship that is meant to last a lifetime. In Ephesians 5:22-33, the apostle Paul speaks about the beauty of marriage and how it is a picture of Christ and the church.

However, the Bible also speaks about the gift of singleness. In 1 Corinthians 7:7-9, Paul writes, "I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another. To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion."

Paul recognizes that being single is a gift from God. It allows individuals to fully devote themselves to serving God without the distractions and responsibilities of marriage.

Marriage is Not the Mission

While marriage is a beautiful thing and a gift from God, it is not the ultimate mission in life. Our ultimate mission is to glorify God in all that we do. This means that whether we are married or single, we are called to live a life that glorifies God.

It is easy to fall into the trap of believing that our ultimate mission is to find our soulmate and start a family. We can become so focused on finding the right person that we forget about God's plan for our lives.

When we make marriage our ultimate mission, we run the risk of idolizing it. We can begin to believe that our happiness and fulfillment are dependent on finding the right person. This can lead to disappointment and disillusionment if we do not find what we are looking for.

When we make marriage our ultimate mission, we also run the risk of neglecting other areas of our lives. We can become so focused on finding the right person that we forget about our relationship with God, our friendships, and our work.

Our Ultimate Mission is to Glorify God

Our ultimate mission is to glorify God in all that we do. This means that whether we are married or single, we are called to live a life that glorifies God.

As Christians, we are called to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). We are also called to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:31). These two commands summarize the entire law and are the foundation of our ultimate mission.

Whether we are married or single, we are called to love God and love others. We are called to serve God in all that we do and to use our gifts and talents to bring glory to Him.

Conclusion

Marriage is a beautiful thing and a gift from God, but it is not the ultimate mission in life. Our ultimate mission is to glorify God in all that we do. Whether we are married or single, we are called to live a life that glorifies God.

When we make marriage our ultimate mission, we run the risk of idolizing it and neglecting other areas of our lives. We must remember that our happiness and fulfillment are found in Christ, not in finding the right person.

As Christians, we are called to love God and love others. We are called to serve God in all that we do and to use our gifts and talents to bring glory to Him. Let us focus on our ultimate mission and trust that God will lead us in the right direction.
