Lift Up Your Eyes: A Letter to My Husband on Faithfulness
Lift Up Your Eyes: A Letter to My Husband on Faithfulness
Dear Husband,
I want to take a moment to talk to you about faithfulness. As a man, it can be difficult in this world to remain faithful to your wife. Temptations are all around us, and the enemy is constantly seeking to lure us away from our commitments. But as a Christian husband, you have a higher calling. You are called to be faithful, not just to your wife but to God.
What Does it Mean to Be Faithful?
Before we dive too deeply into this topic, let's take a moment to define what we mean by faithfulness. Faithfulness is the quality of being loyal, committed, and devoted. It means keeping your promises and fulfilling your obligations. In the context of marriage, faithfulness means being loyal and committed to your spouse, forsaking all others.
But faithfulness goes beyond just our relationships with others. As Christians, we are called to be faithful to God. This means living a life that is pleasing to Him, following His commands, and trusting in His promises. As husbands, our faithfulness to our wives is a reflection of our faithfulness to God.
The Importance of Faithfulness
So why is faithfulness so important? First and foremost, because it is a characteristic of God. God is faithful, and He calls us to be faithful as well (1 Corinthians 1:9). When we are faithful, we reflect the character of God to those around us.
But faithfulness is also important because it is the foundation of trust in any relationship. Without trust, a relationship cannot survive. When we are faithful to our wives, we build trust and strengthen our relationship. When we are faithful to God, we demonstrate our trust in Him and deepen our relationship with Him.
The Temptation to Be Unfaithful
As I mentioned earlier, the world is full of temptation. Everywhere we turn, we are bombarded with messages that tell us that we deserve more, that we should put our own desires first, that we should indulge in whatever pleasures we can find. But as Christians, we know that these messages are lies. We are called to live a life that is pleasing to God, not to ourselves.
One of the most insidious temptations we face as men is the temptation to be unfaithful to our wives. It can start with something as innocent as flirting with a co-worker or watching pornography, but it can quickly spiral out of control. Before we know it, we can find ourselves in the grip of an addiction that is destroying our lives and our relationships.
So how can we resist this temptation? The first step is to recognize that it is a temptation. We need to be aware of the enemy's tactics and be on guard against them. We also need to cultivate our relationship with God. When we are close to Him, we are less likely to be drawn away by the things of this world.
Lifting Up Your Eyes
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Psalm 121:1-2, which says, "I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth." This verse reminds us to look to God for our help and our strength.
As husbands, we need to lift up our eyes and fix our gaze on God. When we are focused on Him, we are less likely to be distracted by the things that would lead us astray. We need to spend time in prayer, reading the Bible, and worshiping God. We need to surround ourselves with other Christian men who will encourage us and hold us accountable.
Another way to lift up our eyes is to focus on the blessings in our lives. When we are grateful for what we have, we are less likely to be tempted by what we don't have. We need to take time to appreciate our wives, our families, and our homes. We need to give thanks to God for all that He has given us.
Conclusion
Being faithful is not always easy, but it is always worth it. When we are faithful to our wives and to God, we honor Him and strengthen our relationships. So, my dear husband, I encourage you to lift up your eyes and fix your gaze on God. He will give you the strength and the courage to resist temptation and to be faithful in all things.
With love,
Your wife
