Jesus Haunts Halloween: Conquering Darkness with His Power

Halloween is a time when the spiritual forces of evil align and the devil himself prepares his hordes for a grand harvest festival of darkness and death. But amidst all the ghouls and goblins, there is one who haunts their Halloween - Jesus.

In the Bible, we see that Jesus has power over unclean spirits and demonic rulers. He has authority over all the forces of darkness. Even Satan himself cannot escape his control. In Colossians 1:16, it says that all things were created through Jesus and for him, including thrones, dominions, rulers, and authorities. Jesus haunts their Halloween because he is sovereign over every movement of evil.

When Jesus was on earth, he demonstrated his power over the demonic realm. In Mark 1:27, it says that the unclean spirits obeyed him. And when he died on the cross, he disarmed the rulers and authorities, putting them to open shame (Colossians 2:15). Jesus came to conquer fear and destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Through his death, he destroyed the one who has the power of death, the devil, and delivered us from lifelong slavery to fear (Hebrews 2:14-15). Jesus haunts their Halloween by triumphing over the enemy.

As Christians, we have no need to fear the night of Halloween because Jesus has won the victory for us. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son (Colossians 1:13). The one who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Every inch of this universe belongs to Jesus, including Halloween and all its darkness. We can stand firm in the evil day because Jesus has already conquered the enemy (Ephesians 6:13). The God of peace will soon crush Satan under our feet (Romans 16:20).

When Jesus haunts our Halloween, we are called to put on the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14) and the new self (Colossians 3:10). We are to dress in the full armor of God and stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). Instead of retreating, we are to resist the devil, and he will flee from us (James 4:7). We are to be sober-minded and watchful, resisting him firm in our faith (1 Peter 5:8-9).

On Halloween, we have an opportunity to engage with our neighbors and share the love of Christ. We can be creative and intentional in our interactions, whether it's taking our children trick-or-treating or giving out the best candy. But we should also remember that our real enemy is not the people dressed up in costumes, but the spiritual forces of evil that seek to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4). We are called to pray for laborers to be sent into the harvest (Matthew 9:37-38) and to be those laborers ourselves.

When Jesus haunts our Halloween, we are reminded that the forces of evil are actually terrified of him. Satan and his demons are constantly in a state of fear because they know their ultimate defeat is coming. Jesus has promised that his gospel will advance and the gates of hell will not prevail against his church (Matthew 16:18). We can boldly declare, "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:55). The victory has been won through Jesus Christ.

In conclusion, Jesus haunts their Halloween. He has power and authority over the spiritual forces of evil. He disarmed the rulers and authorities through his death on the cross. As Christians, we have no need to fear the darkness of Halloween because Jesus has already won the victory. We are called to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, resist the devil, and engage with our neighbors in love. As we do this, we can confidently declare the victory we have through Jesus and his gospel. So let us embrace the opportunity to shine the light of Christ on Halloween and every day.
