Jesus Did Not Die for Comfortable Christians

The Christian life is not all about convenience. In fact, we are called to live a life that is quite the opposite. The world wants us to believe that the pursuit of ease is the ultimate goal, but that is far from the truth. The Enemy whispers these lies to us, hoping to distract us from our true purpose and calling.

As Christians, we are not called to live a comfortable life but a life of sacrifice and service. Jesus Himself lived a life of sacrifice, giving up His own life so that we could be saved. He did not die for our comfort, but for our salvation.

The Danger of Comfort

The pursuit of comfort can be dangerous for Christians. It can lead us astray from our purpose and cause us to become complacent in our faith. When we become too comfortable, we may be less likely to take risks for the sake of the gospel or to stand up for our beliefs when they are challenged.

Jesus never promised us a life of comfort. In fact, He warned us that we would face trials and persecution because of our faith (John 15:18-21). He also called us to take up our cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). The cross was not a symbol of comfort, but of sacrifice and suffering.

The Apostle Paul echoed this sentiment when he said, "For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake" (Philippians 1:29). Paul knew that following Christ would not be easy, but he also knew that it was worth it.

The Call to Sacrifice

As Christians, we are called to live a life of sacrifice. This means putting the needs of others before our own and being willing to give up our own desires and comforts for the sake of the gospel.

Jesus Himself set the example for us when He gave up His own life for us. He said, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends" (John 15:13). We may not be called to give up our lives in the same way that Jesus did, but we are called to sacrifice in other ways.

The Apostle Paul urged us to "present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service" (Romans 12:1). This means offering ourselves to God as a sacrifice, giving up our own desires and putting His will first.

Living a life of sacrifice may not be easy, but it is necessary if we want to follow Christ. We must be willing to give up our own comfort and convenience for the sake of the gospel.

The Comfort of the Holy Spirit

While living a life of sacrifice may be difficult, we are not alone in our struggles. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to comfort us and guide us through difficult times (John 14:16-17).

The Holy Spirit is our comforter, our guide, and our helper. He strengthens us when we are weak and gives us the courage to face challenges and difficulties. We can find comfort in the Holy Spirit even when we are facing trials and hardships.

The Apostle Paul wrote, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

When we face trials and difficulties, we can turn to the Holy Spirit for comfort and strength. And as we receive comfort from Him, we can also comfort others who are going through similar struggles.

Jesus did not die for our comfort. He died for our salvation. As Christians, we are called to live a life of sacrifice and service, putting the needs of others before our own. While this may not be easy, we can find comfort in the Holy Spirit, who guides us and strengthens us through difficult times.
