I Never Made a Sacrifice: Discovering the True Meaning of Surrendering to God
I Never Made a Sacrifice
Have you ever felt like you were making sacrifices for God? Like you were giving up something valuable or important in order to follow Him? I used to feel that way too. But then I realized something profound: I never made a sacrifice.
Understanding Sacrifice
Sacrifice, in its truest sense, is giving up something of lesser value for something of greater value. It is a conscious decision to let go of something in order to gain something better. But when it comes to our relationship with God, what could we possibly give up that is of greater value than what He offers us?
Think about it. God, the creator of the universe, offers us eternal life, forgiveness of sins, peace, joy, and so much more. What could we possibly offer in return that could compare to what He gives us?
The Ultimate Sacrifice
When we talk about sacrifice, we often think of Jesus on the cross. He willingly gave up His life for us, taking on the punishment for our sins. But even in that act of sacrifice, Jesus gained something greater. He gained victory over sin and death, and opened the way for us to have a relationship with God.
So, when we think about the sacrifices we make for God, we need to remember that He has already made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Anything we give up or let go of is only a response to the incredible love and grace He has shown us.
Counting the Cost
In Luke 14:28, Jesus said, "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?"
When we follow Jesus, there is a cost involved. It may mean giving up certain comforts or pleasures. It may mean facing opposition or ridicule. But when we count the cost, we realize that whatever we give up is nothing compared to what we gain in Christ.
A New Perspective
So, instead of thinking of it as sacrifice, let's reframe our perspective. Instead of focusing on what we're giving up, let's focus on what we're gaining. Let's see it as an opportunity to experience God's love and blessings in a new and deeper way.
When we let go of our own desires and surrender to God's will, we open ourselves up to His plans and purposes for our lives. We allow Him to work in and through us, bringing about greater things than we could ever imagine.
Conclusion
In the end, there is no sacrifice too great when it comes to following God. We may face challenges and difficulties, but we can trust that He will always be with us, guiding and strengthening us along the way.
So, let's embrace the journey of following Jesus, knowing that whatever we give up is nothing compared to what we gain in Him. Let's surrender our desires and plans to His perfect will, and experience the abundant life He has promised us.
