However, if we train ourselves to make gratitude our knee-jerk reaction, we can shift our focus from what is wrong to what is right. For example, when faced with a loss or a setback, we can still find things to be thankful for, such as the time we had with a loved one or the lessons we learned from our failures. By making gratitude our default reaction, we can find strength and hope in the midst of adversity.
