He Will Hold Me Fast: Finding Confidence in God's Keeping Power

Have you ever found yourself questioning your faith? Have you ever worried that you might not be strong enough to endure the challenges and trials of the Christian life? It's a common fear, but one that we don't have to carry alone. In fact, the Bible assures us that God is able to hold us fast and keep us secure in our faith.

The Fear of Falling Away

Many believers have experienced moments of doubt and fear, wondering if they will be able to "hold out" or "hold on" until the end. It's natural to have these concerns, especially when we face trials and temptations that test our faith. But it's important to remember that our confidence does not ultimately lie in our own strength or ability to persevere. Our confidence rests in the keeping power of God.

In the book of Jude, the apostle celebrates God's ability to keep us from stumbling and to present us blameless before His glory with great joy (Jude 24). This is a truth that is echoed throughout the Bible. God is faithful to His promises and He will not let us go. He will hold us fast.

God's Faithfulness in Scripture

Throughout the Bible, we see examples of God's faithfulness in keeping His people. In the Old Testament, we read about the Israelites and how God led them out of slavery in Egypt, provided for them in the wilderness, and brought them into the Promised Land. Despite their disobedience and unfaithfulness, God remained faithful to His covenant with them.

In the New Testament, we see the ultimate example of God's faithfulness in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect and sinless life, and willingly gave Himself up as a sacrifice for our sins. Through His death and resurrection, He secured our salvation and eternal life. He promised to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) and to be with us always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

Furthermore, the apostle Paul assures us in his letter to the Philippians that "he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). This means that the work of salvation and sanctification is not dependent on our own efforts, but on the faithfulness of God. He is the one who initiates and carries out the work in us, and He will bring it to completion.

Confidence in God's Keeping Power

So how can we find confidence in God's keeping power? How can we overcome our fears and doubts? Here are a few key truths to remember:

1. God is Sovereign

God is in control of all things. He is sovereign over our lives and circumstances. Nothing can happen to us that is outside of His control or beyond His reach. He holds the whole world in His hands, and He will hold us fast.

2. God is Faithful

God is faithful to His promises. He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He has promised to be with us always. He has promised to complete the work He has started in us. We can trust in His faithfulness and rely on His strength.

3. God is Able

God is able to keep us from stumbling. He is able to preserve our faith and protect us from falling away. He is able to present us blameless before His glory. Our confidence does not rest in our own abilities, but in the power and ability of God.

When we understand and embrace these truths, our fears and doubts begin to fade away. We can have confidence that God will hold us fast, no matter what we face. We can trust in His keeping power and rely on His faithfulness.

Living in Confidence

Living in confidence of God's keeping power doesn't mean we will never face challenges or doubts. It doesn't mean that we won't stumble or struggle at times. But it does mean that we can face those challenges with the assurance that God is with us and He will see us through.

Just as a loving parent holds their child's hand as they cross a busy street, God holds us fast in His grip. He will never let go. He will guide us, protect us, and lead us safely to our eternal home.

So let go of your fears and doubts. Trust in the keeping power of God. He will hold you fast.

Conclusion

As we navigate the challenges of life, it's natural to have moments of doubt and fear. But we don't have to carry those burdens alone. The Bible assures us that God is able to hold us fast and keep us secure in our faith. He is sovereign, faithful, and able to preserve us. We can find confidence in His keeping power and trust in His faithfulness. So let go of your fears and doubts, and rest in the assurance that God will hold you fast.
