Discover Your True Identity in Christ

You Are Who God Says You Are

Have you ever felt like you are not enough? Like you don't measure up to society's standards? Perhaps you have been told that you are not smart enough, not pretty or handsome enough, or don't have what it takes to succeed. It can be easy to listen to those voices and start believing that you are not enough.

But as a Christian, you have a different standard to measure yourself against. Your identity is not based on what other people say about you or even what you say about yourself. Your identity is based on what God says about you.

What Does God Say About You?

God has a lot to say about who you are. Here are just a few things:

  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

  • You are a child of God (John 1:12).

  • You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  • You are chosen and loved by God (1 Thessalonians 1:4).

  • You are a co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17).

  • You are forgiven (Ephesians 1:7).

  • You are redeemed (Ephesians 1:7).

  • You are justified (Romans 5:1).

  • You are sanctified (1 Corinthians 6:11).

These are just a few of the things that God says about you. But there is even more. In Christ, you have a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). You are accepted (Ephesians 1:6) and secure (John 10:28-29). You are valuable because you are created in God's image (Genesis 1:27).

When you start to doubt who you are, it's important to remember what God says about you. His opinion is the only one that matters, and it's always true.

Why Is It Important to Know Who You Are in Christ?

Knowing who you are in Christ is important for several reasons:

1. It Affects Your Relationship with God

If you don't know who you are in Christ, it can be difficult to have a close relationship with God. When you don't believe that you are loved and accepted by Him, it's hard to trust Him and draw near to Him. But when you understand who you are in Christ, you can have the confidence to approach God with boldness (Hebrews 4:16). You know that He loves you and accepts you just as you are. This makes it easier to trust Him and to grow in your relationship with Him.

2. It Affects Your Relationships with Others

When you know who you are in Christ, it can also affect how you relate to others. You don't have to try to earn their approval or acceptance because you already have it in Christ. This can free you up to love and serve others without expecting anything in return. You can also be more forgiving and gracious because you understand how much you have been forgiven and how much grace has been extended to you.

3. It Affects Your Self-Image

Finally, knowing who you are in Christ can also affect your self-image. When you understand that you are fearfully and wonderfully made and that you are loved and accepted by God, you can have a healthy self-esteem. You don't have to try to prove yourself to others or to yourself because you already know that you are valuable and important. This can help you to be more confident and content in who you are.

How Can You Discover Who You Are in Christ?

If you are struggling to understand who you are in Christ, here are a few things that can help:

1. Spend Time in God's Word

The Bible is full of verses that tell us who we are in Christ. Spend time reading and meditating on these verses. Write them down and memorize them so that you can recall them when you need them.

2. Pray for Understanding

Ask God to help you understand who you are in Christ. Pray that He would open your eyes to see yourself the way He sees you.

3. Seek Wise Counsel

It can be helpful to talk to other Christians who have a strong understanding of who they are in Christ. Ask them to share their experiences with you and to encourage you in your journey.

4. Practice Gratitude

Finally, practice gratitude. Thank God for who He has created you to be and for all the blessings He has given you. When you focus on the good things in your life, it can be easier to see yourself in a positive light.

Conclusion

Remember, you are who God says you are. Your identity is not based on what other people say about you or even what you say about yourself. Your identity is based on what God says about you. When you start to doubt who you are, go back to the Bible and remind yourself of the truth. Spend time in prayer and seek wise counsel. And always remember that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, a child of God, and loved beyond measure.
