Discover How God Works in You at Work: Transforming Character, Providing, Sharing Love, Developing
Six Ways God Works in You at Work
Do you find yourself struggling to see God's presence in your workplace? Do you feel like you are alone in your efforts to serve and glorify Him? Well, I have good news for you. God is not absent from your workplace. In fact, He is working in you in six significant ways.
1. God is Working in You to Transform Your Character
When we think of character transformation, we often think of it in the context of our personal lives. However, God is also interested in transforming our character through our work. The Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28 NIV). This means that even the difficult and mundane aspects of our jobs can be used by God to shape us into the image of Christ.
For instance, if you struggle with pride, God may use your work environment to humble you. If you struggle with patience, God may use your work to develop this fruit of the Spirit in you. The key is to approach your job with a willingness to be molded by God, even in the areas where it is most difficult.
2. God is Working in You to Provide for Your Needs
One of the primary reasons we work is to provide for our basic needs and the needs of our families. However, the Bible reminds us that it is ultimately God who provides for us. Jesus said, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" (Matthew 6:25-26 NIV).
This passage reminds us that God is intimately involved in our daily lives, including our work. He sees our needs and provides for them in ways that we may not even be aware of. So, if you are feeling anxious about your job or finances, remember that God is ultimately in control and will provide for your needs according to His will.
3. God is Working in You to Share His Love with Others
As Christians, we are called to share God's love with the world around us. This includes our coworkers, customers, and clients. The Bible says, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16 NIV).
One of the most powerful ways we can share God's love is by living out our faith in the workplace. This means treating others with kindness, respect, and integrity. It means being a source of encouragement and hope to those around us. When we do this, we not only bring glory to God, but we also create opportunities to share the gospel with those who may be searching for answers.
4. God is Working in You to Develop Your Skills and Abilities
God has given each of us unique skills and abilities that we can use to serve Him. The Bible tells us, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms" (1 Peter 4:10 NIV).
Our jobs provide opportunities for us to develop and use these gifts in a practical way. Whether it is through learning new skills, taking on new challenges, or simply honing our craft, God is using our work to help us grow and develop as individuals.
5. God is Working in You to Build His Kingdom
As Christians, we are called to be a part of God's kingdom-building work. This includes using our jobs as a platform to share the gospel and make disciples. The Bible says, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:19-20 NIV).
While not everyone is called to be a full-time missionary or pastor, we can all make a difference in our workplaces by sharing our faith and living out the gospel. This may be as simple as praying for our coworkers or inviting them to church. Or it may involve more intentional efforts to share the gospel and disciple others.
6. God is Working in You to Give You a Purpose
Finally, God is using your work to give you a sense of purpose and meaning in life. The Bible says, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV).
When we approach our jobs with the mindset of serving and glorifying God, even the most mundane tasks take on new significance. We begin to see our work as a way to make a difference in the world and bring glory to God.
Conclusion
Your workplace may sometimes feel like a lonely and difficult place to be, but remember that God is with you and working in you in powerful ways. He is using your job to transform your character, provide for your needs, share His love with others, develop your skills and abilities, build His kingdom, and give you a sense of purpose and meaning in life. So, embrace your job as an opportunity to serve and glorify God, and watch as He works in and through you to impact the world for His kingdom.
