7 Promises of Jesus for Overcoming Anxiety About Material Needs

Are you feeling anxious about your material needs? Do you worry about what you will eat, drink, or wear? If so, take comfort in the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:31–34. In these verses, Jesus provides us with seven promises to combat unbelief and alleviate our anxieties.

Promise #1: “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’” (Matthew 6:31)

Jesus tells us not to be anxious about our basic needs. These concerns are often at the forefront of our minds, but Jesus reminds us that worrying about them is unnecessary. Instead, we should focus on seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness.

Promise #2: “For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” (Matthew 6:32)

Jesus assures us that God is not ignorant of our needs. He knows everything about us, including our material needs. He is our heavenly Father who cares for us deeply. We can find comfort in the knowledge that God is aware of our needs and will provide for us.

Promise #3: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Jesus instructs us to prioritize seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness. When we focus on God's purposes and living according to his will, he promises to provide for our needs. This does not mean that we will have excessive wealth or abundance, but rather that we will have everything we need to fulfill God's purposes for our lives.

Promise #4: “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34)

Jesus encourages us to live one day at a time and not worry about tomorrow. Each day comes with its own challenges, and God promises to give us the strength and grace to face them. We can trust that God will provide for our needs on a daily basis.

These promises from Jesus are meant to reassure us and free us from the burden of anxiety. God is aware of our needs, and he will provide for us as we seek his kingdom and righteousness. We can trust in his faithfulness and live each day with confidence, knowing that he is with us.

In addition to these promises, there are other verses in the Bible that speak to God's provision and care for his people. Psalm 23:1 says, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." This verse reminds us that when we have God as our shepherd, we lack nothing. He takes care of all our needs.

Another verse that speaks to God's provision is Philippians 4:19: "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." This verse assures us that God will supply all our needs according to his abundant resources. We can rely on his provision and trust that he will provide for us in every situation.

As we navigate life's challenges and uncertainties, it's important to remember these promises and verses from the Bible. God is faithful, and he will take care of us. We can find peace and rest in his provision, knowing that he is always with us.

In conclusion, if you find yourself anxious about your material needs, remember the promises of Jesus in Matthew 6:31–34. God knows all your needs and cares for you as a loving Father. Seek his kingdom and righteousness, and he will provide for you. Trust in his faithfulness and live one day at a time, knowing that he will give you the strength and grace you need. Be encouraged by other verses in the Bible that speak to God's provision and care. Rest in the knowledge that God is with you and will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory.
